It didn’t take much for six of us at Speak! to ditch the office and take part in this year’s Portland Creative Conference. What a treat. And what a payoff. Like last year, we were quickly humbled by listening to one brilliant mind after the next.

The lineup of the Sept. 23 event pulled on two timeless threads: Equality and Vulnerability. Several speakers brought awareness to racial and gender inequalities, while weaving in personal perspective about their fears, insecurities and struggles. Our toughest experiences have a way of generating a powerful force of meaningful expression.

If we weren’t being inspired and motivated by a host of creatives and visionaries, we were being serenaded and entertained by John Doan and Trashcan Joe.

The greatest takeaway? Creativity and vulnerability go hand-in-hand; you can’t have one without the other. And, of course, these great quotes to have and to hold:

“Write down your fears so that they don’t sneak up on you.”
